If you are shooting a muzzleloading rifle or an inline muzzleloader pistol, the following information and products will help you produce excellent accuracy with your muzzleloading firearm. What do you do when the compressed muzzleload powder pellets and powder sticks that you're using don't shoot well in your muzzleloader? The unbelievable accuracy that you have read about just isn't there? Maybe they say that you should try some bullets that cost $1 or $2 dollars each? Or, try to find some 30 grain compressed powder pellets to mix and match with the 50 grain or 60 grain pellets you are already using? I know, buy a new breech plug because someone told you that that is the problem? Maybe they also told you that you needed a new muzzleloader because the one you have isn't any good? Will all this fix the accuracy problem, problems --- maybe--but probably not. You see, the only way to reduce a "bullets group size" on the target is to adjust the muzzleload powder charge load, down or up, to find what that specific bullet likes. That's Muzzleloading Basics 101. Granular muzzleloading powder is fully adjustable where as compressed powder pellets and sticks are not. Also, consistent ram-rod packing pressure is mandatory for producing that excellent muzzleload accuracy. Here's an idea. Why not start or go back to using granular muzzleload powder and let "Powder Pack Pro" or "Powder Pack Supreme" do the ram-rod packing for you? How to use Powder Pack Pro or Powder Pack Supreme?
Powder Pack Pro or Powder Pack Supreme replaces the palm of your hand on your muzzleload ramrod while seating the muzzleload projectile on the powder charge and then compressing the load before firing. It's small, lightweight, and will easily fit into any fanny pack.
1. Starting with a clean muzzleload barrel, load your desiginated granular muzzleload powder charge into the barrel.
2. Put end "A" of Powder Pack Pro or Pack Pack Supreme over the end of your muzzleload ramrod while you are pushing the muzzleload projectile (Sabotted Bullets, Patched Round Balls, Maxi Balls, etc.) down the barrel until it is seated on the powder charge load. DO NOT pack with end "A".
3. Now, with muzzleload ramrod still in the barrel, put end "B" of Powder Pack Pro or Powder Pack Supreme on the end of the ramrod and with a quick, downward motion with the palm of your hand, push powder pack down until you feel it "Stop" and then let up. Do not push down any further. You are now loaded with consistent muzzleload ramrod packing pressure.
4. Remove Powder Pack Pro or Powder Pack Supreme from your muzzleload ramrod and ramrod from the rifle barrel. Your rifle is now ready for priming and firing.
5. Continue adjusting the powder charge load until you produce a 3 shot 2 inch group or less.
Most granular muzzleload powders produce much better accuracy, easier powder ignition, more consistent and thorough powder burn, the same amount of power and unlike compressed muzzleload powder pellets and powder sticks, granular muzzeload powder can be adjusted to whatever amount necessary for reducing muzzleloader bullet group size and it's also cheaper to shoot. All the muzzleload shooters I talk with want the answers guick and simple on how they can make their muzzleloader shoot great. Your muzzleloading rifle ( inline or sidehammer ) will shoot 2 inch groups or less at 100 yards but how do we get those small groups? You--have to produce them and here's how.
1. GOOD to excellent marksmanship skills. This is produced by shooting as much as possible and always using some type of a rest to steady the shot if available.
2. CONSISTENT muzzleload ramrod packing pressure for all shots. This is produced by using "Powder Pack Pro" or "Powder Pack Supreme" when loading granular muzzleload powder. Both use a compression system that eliminates human error and tells you when to STOP pushing down on the ramrod when compressing the load. This produces consistent shot to shot ram-rod packing pressure and power. Both are designed to pack granular muzzleload powder and do not have to be adjusted when changing sabot/bullet or powder charge loads.
3. ADJUSTMENT of the muzzleload powder charge to what the sabotted bullet, patched round ball or other muzzleload projectile likes. This is produced by using granular muzzleload powder and a fully adjustable powder measure preferably with a sliding funnel top. Adjusting the muzzleload powder charge load and consistent ramrod packing pressure is very important for reducing your muzzleload bullet group size.
4. CLEAN barrels shoot more accurately than dirty barrels especially when using muzzleload sabotted pistol and rifle bullets. After each shot, push a 20 ga Bronze Shotgun Cleaning Brush, NOT steele or nylon, down the barrel. This will break loose all the dirt and CRUDD RING that remains in the barrel. Remove the shotgun cleaning rod and brush. Turn the muzzleloader upside down so that any residue can fall out and then continue with the cleaning process. In hunting situations, you can get by without cleaning the barrel after each shot because you will probably only be shooting one or two shots with the first shot being with a clean barrel. Even a third shot without cleaning will more than likely shoot OK. After that, CLEAN THE BARREL.

Let me explain this another way because the above basics are very important and pertain to all muzzleload shooters using granular muzzleload powder. Lets say that you are shooting from a rest and your muzzleloader has good hot ignition. You are also cleaning the barrel between shots and you are using "Powder Pack Pro" or "Powder Pack Supreme" for consistent ram-rod packing pressure and still have a large 3 shot group. Then the only step left to do is #3, adjust the powder charge load down or up until the group gets smaller. Ramrod Packing Pressure.
Muzzleload ramrod packing pressure creates power and bullet velocity but DOES NOT produce accuracy. "CONSISTENT" muzzleload ramrod packing pressure with each shot produces excellent accuracy. Once your 3 shot group is on the target at lets say 50 yards, move the target, if possible, out to 100 yards. The reason for shooting at 100 yards is because just about all combinations of muzzleload powder charge loads with sabotted pistol bullets or other muzzleload projectiles will shoot good at 25 and 50 yards. It seems that 100 yards is the recommended distance for seeing if the correct granular muzzleload powder charge for a sabot/bullet combination or non-sabotted bullets with consistent ramrod packing pressure is working correctly. If not, change the powder charge load down or up. Consistent ramrod packing pressure does for muzzleload shooters what consistent string release does for archery shooters. Almost all archery shooters use a string release. Why? So they can get the same consistent arrow release for each shot. Consistent arrow release equals excellent accuracy for archery shooters. Muzzleload Powder.
There are two different forms of muzzleload rifle powder: granular and compressed(pellets and sticks). Granular muzzleload rifle powder is much more versatile and adjustable than the pre-compressed powder pellets and pre-compressed powder sticks . The granular form is what most experienced muzzleload rifle shooters use. Why? Because granular muzzleload rifle powder can be adjusted to just about any volume amount needed to reduce muzzleload bullet group size with any given saboted bullet or other muzzleload projectile. Consistent ramrod packing pressure and increasing or decreasing a muzzleload powder charge load is very important for decreasing the bullet group size on the target. "Powder Pack Pro" and "Powder Pack Supreme" produce extremely consistent ramrod packing pressure for all shots by stablizing bullet velocities thus eliminating high and low shots on the target. Consistent ramrod packing pressure is extremely important for excellent accuracy because the difference between a tight consistent pack and a loose inconsistent pack can vary the bullet's point of impact by up to six inches or more at 100 yards.
There are several different brands of granular muzzleload rifle powder available to the shooter. Some ignite faster than others and some are cleaner burning than others. Granular muzzleload rifle powders can produce the same velocities (fps)as do the pre-compressed powder pellets and pre-compressed powder sticks. It's very important to understand that bullet velocity does not equal bullet accuracy. Who cares if the muzzleload projectile is moving out of the barrel at 2000 fps and it can't consistently produce at least a two inch group or less at 100 yards?
In order to fine tune a muzzleload powder charge to any given bullet, the powder charge has to be fully adjustable. Increasing or decreasing a muzzleload powder charge by five, ten or even fifteen grains may be needed to make the three shot group decrease in size. But, from then on, the load will probably need to be changed by much smaller amounts. A fully adjustable muzzleload powder measure with a sliding funnel top is another "Have To Have" accessory item for correctly measuring granular muzzleload powder charge loads. Sometimes a muzzleload rifle just doesn't like a particular bullet and will require the shooter to try a different projectile in order to get that 2 inch group at 100 yards.
So why am I talking about all this stuff? Excellent muzzleload accuracy "Does Not" just happen by itself. It has to be "PRODUCED"--- by you.
